AquaEnergetics™ – Turning biowaste into clean water, local energy, and next-generation, high-value fertilizer.

Aqua Fission and [CaptureBank’s] joint venture, AquaEnergetics, is a unified Water–Energy–Fertilizer platform for farms, biogas plants, industrial organics, and municipal waste streams. A HydroCircular Utility™, the combined platorm turns manure, digestate, sludge and wastewater into three outputs: clean water, local energy, and next-generation, high-value fertilizer.
Rapidly Growing NeedIn Europe, for example, total biogas digestate production is estimated at around 930 million tons of biogas digestate as of 2022. Production of biogas digestate is projected to increase significantly to 1.5 billion tons by 2030 and 3.5 billion tons by 2050.
Sewage, animal manure, and biogas digestate pose an existential problem for water supply and sanitation. While this nutrient-rich by-product is often utilized as fertilizer to enhance soil health, it is prone to leaching into the ground and air, contains various pollutants such as microplastics, and includes additives like glycol, among others.
Conventional fertilizer production is also extremely energy-intensive and heavily dependent on natural gas, leaving it exposed to geopolitical shocks and price volatility. Elevated energy and fertilizer costs are forcing farmers to cut applications, threatening food security.
The logistical costs associated with transporting and spreading massive volume of digestate on fields present a significant economic and environmental burden, making its disposal a net cost rather than a value-added process.
Current facilities struggle to efficiently dry this material, typically achieving a maximum of only 20–30% dry matter (DM). In contrast, we achieve a process that is more efficient, drying the material to >90% DM. Europe is facing a biowaste crisis running in parallel with energy and fertilizer shortages.
Europe is handling a rising volume of nutrient-rich waste with a system built for disposal, not value creation.
What some see as a global waste crisis, we see as an unlocked and untapped source of energy and fertilizer value.
The Aqua Fission + CaptureBank solution unlocks the value of problematic biowaste by harnessing its untapped nutrients, transforming waste streams into clean water and valuable and exportable bio-products: carbon-negative fertilizer, gas or combined heat & power (CHP).
Aqua Fission removes water from all types of contaminated wastewater sources and turns nutrient-rich solids into a denser, more economical feedstock for downstream conversion. Waste streams are treated as assets, not liabilities.
Recover water from sludge, digestate, wastewater, and difficult industrial or saline streams close to the source — eliminating toxic brine and discharge and related costs. The nutrient loop is monetized.
CaptureBank upgrades those solids into local heat / energy and biochar mineral fertilizer for healthier soils and lower runoff. Energy can be used to power Aqua Fission. A multi-output, circular platform: water
Aqua Fission treats wastewater to produce irrigation or potable water and nutrient cake; CaptureBank upgrades the concentrated solids into high-value fertilizer and energy.

Sludge Dewatering / Irrigation Water
Sludge, a byproduct of anaerobic digestion of organic materials to produce biogas, can contain harmful impurities that threaten to contaminate groundwater. The Halkidiki biogas plant deployed AquaFission to dewater sludge, and produce humus and irrigation water.
